The herd will be eating luzerne for a few weeks, and here are a few photos of their last grass for a while.
The grass in the foreground has already been eaten, but I don’t usually backfence since they don’t like going over old ground when there’s new grass out there. In general, I make sure they have plenty of food so they don’t break fences and that also means there’s little desire to go back for new regrowth.
Ahh, grass. Those Salers heifers are looking well fed.
Next they are on to Colorado, which is nearly all legumes at this time of the year. Here’s Big Cow, the boss of the herd, trying the first slice. These guys can knock off a lot of luzerne.
